Being a huge fan of the Masters of the Universe, um universe, I am extremely excited to see that there is finally a decent game based around the properties coming out. There have been attempts in the past on Atari 2600, on various computers and even the GBA (our UK friends got a cool looking PS2 game that we missed out on in the USA) all with mixed results- mainly the property was forced into game engines that simply didn’t fit the license (He-Man is not an overhead style friendly license).
So far, the only thing we know about the upcoming iOS title from Electronic Arts is from the Youtube video (we pulled screen grabs from that for people not interested in watching the vid). From what is shown, He-Man is a sidescrolling action title, finally, focusing on heavy fighting (YES!) and bosses that are huge and menacing, at least till you hit the mainstays that are basically the same size as He-Man himself (it would simply be weird to fight a 20 foot tall Skeletor or Hordak but fine for say, an ice creature).
It seems there is a bit of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles style throwing the enemy towards the screen resulting in a satisfying crack. Nice touch that is hopefully just the tip of the iceberg of cool and interesting things they implement in the final game.
This is how to bring out a licensed game, pair it with an engine that is close to the style of the property being licensed. We are not sure when He-Man will hit iOS devices, the only platform mentioned in the video, but when we do, you will see an update on this story.
