I reviewed Beach Buggy Blitz awhile back on the Zeepad tablet and while it was quite a bit of fun (it scored a 90), I have to say, it is just that much better on the JXD S601. Why? Physical controls of course. Yes, having physical buttons does make a TON of difference with Beach Buggy Blitz and the amount of fun I have had with it.
Playing BBB with physical controls opens a bit of the screen up for more details such as not having the brake pedals blocking the bottom corners. That doesn’t exactly make the game any easier or more fun but it does keep the screen from being cluttered, there is enough going on in the game world itself without buttons overlaid on it.
Since the original review went up Vector Unit has updated BBB with new additions that improve the game, and some that break it- slightly. First the bad stuff from the recent update. The game stutters here and there, especially when using Screencast to take screenshots. Before the update, the S601 was able to run BBB without a hitch, smooth as butter. While not a deal breaker, the new update has created a problem that rears its head every 10 to 20 seconds (it also appears that the overall frame rate has taken a hit). Such a shame because the new content is cool, at least what I will be able to access of it (the new level is only for dual core devices).
Now onto the good stuff. There is now a fifth level to the upgrade system, maxing out now costs 25,000 coins but is very much worth it. I suggest getting the magnet maxed out first (3 coin multiplier and lasts longer from what I can tell) then getting the checkpoint upgrade maxed out which will add two seconds at each checkpoint (will come in handy in hitting those longer races).
There is a one time tune up option (4,000 coins- not worth it), some new achievements that will help in reaching the higher score ranks but nothing earth shattering for the average gamer. A new tip system is available but it is really only of use to new players- anyone that has played for more than an hour or so will already know most of the tips on offer.
As before, fans should grab this game, NOW. Beach Buggy Blitz still stands as the best Android game I have played so far.
