Review: Rail Rush by Miniclip on the JXD S601 Android Hand Held

3D running games are still going strong with many new entrants in the category every week or so.  Some are great (we try to cover those) and some aren’t (we ignore those) and then there are some that have slight problems holding them back from being great (like this one).  Rail Rush is interesting in its execution, who hasn’t fantasized about riding an old mine cart through tunnels since they saw it the first time in a movie (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom anyone?).

Rail Rush captures the fun, without the danger, of doing just that, riding a mine cart at breakneck speeds through different tunnels (the Google Play page states six worlds) with different riders that can be purchased (no worries, there is a handy “In App Purchase” option to help with the lack of gold nuggets needed to buy things).  The problem starts with the fact that the game is extremely hard.  I love hard games, I don’t want a game that is going to be a pushover and let me win every time.  On the flip side, I want to have at least an understanding of where I screwed up so I can improve in future attempts.  Rail Rush fails miserably here.

The jumping ability of the mine cart is WAY too low which causes many problems when trying to jump any obstacle that appears on the tracks (read, all the time).  This causes unnecessary frustration and, quite frankly, ruins the enjoyment of playing the game at all.  For 3D running game fans only on this one folks.  If you are on the fence, skip it and go with one of the more entertaining, while still challenging, entries available such as Agent Dash, Beach Buggy Blitz or good old Temple Run itself.
