Thimbleweed Park Coming to Android

Point and click adventure fans already know the name Thimbleweed Park quite well. If you don’t, then just how big a fan of the genre are you? For those that are reading this and are not fortunate enough to know that name, Thimbleweed Park is a point and click adventure throwback to the good old days of playing games on a computer.  Everything is pixelated and not at all super detailed, just like the developers (Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick) happened to find the game in one of their desk drawers and released it. This duo are responsible for some of the classics of this genre – Maniac Mansion and Secret of Monkey Island, to name a couple (interview available here). Now, their recent classic is coming to Android. At some point.

Setup like Maniac Mansion, Thimbleweed Park tells the story of two FBI agents that are attempting to solve a murder in the rundown town. As with most point and click games, this is just the tip of the iceberg as literally NOTHING is what it seems at first glance. This is part of the allure of Thimbleweed Park though, that sense of mystery and not knowing exactly what is going on until you unravel the complete mystery.

Thimbleweed Park is a Kickstarter success story (amazing what happens when professionals are at the helm) and one that has not stopped being updated just because it was “released” earlier this year. The duo has continued providing updates to the game, adding additional content, and improving on what was initially shipped. They are also hard at work releasing Thimbleweed Park on more platforms such as the Playstation 4 console.

Recently on Twitter Ron Gilbert dropped a hint that Android is a planned platform for future release of Thimbleweed Park. In true classic point and click adventure fashion, he was not at all detailed about when this would happen other than stating a date would be made available when they are 100% sure.
