Why is Nintendo Asking Permission to Use Gamer Reviews?

Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds Nintendo 3DS

It is interesting. Nintendo being on the other side of the coin so to speak. They have begun asking permission to use reviews that have been made available for one of their games. What is wild is, this game is five years old now.

Nintendo began asking for permission to use snippets from published reviews in relation to their game The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. A title that came out in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS platforms. Weird.

Or is it?

While The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is a classic style 2D overhead view game, there are possible reasons that Nintendo would be interested in using snippets from reviews so long after release.

They may be planning a sequel is one option. For them to be requesting permission to use published reviews means the game is nearing the period of advertising and promotion.

Another reason could be that Nintendo is planning on releasing a Nintendo Selects edition of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on the Nintendo 3DS platform.

Over on Twitter commenters are speculating this could be a remake of A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Selects release on Nintendo 3DS, even a remake of Minnish Cap round out the chatter there.

Right now, the only people that know what is going on is Nintendo themselves. The rest of us are relegated to guessing and investigating. That is what I do best though – uncovering mysteries and spotting stories where there is nothing.

Either one of these could be the reason for such interaction with reviewers – something Nintendo doesn’t really do that often. I mean, I am sure they do often, but rumors are they are contacting a broader range of gaming outlets for this permission – outside the normal Nintendo PR circle.
